Unsere Geschichte

Hauptfokus (hauptfokus.de) is owned and operated by Alpen Press Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number 132587, Companies House Gibraltar), with its registered office at Office 3.7, ICC, Casemates Square, Gibraltar, GX11 1AA. The publication was founded in 2024 to fill a specific gap in Swedish news coverage for German-speaking readers who want clear, practical reporting without spin or oversimplification.

Why did Alpen Press Ltd. found Hauptfokus?

Alpen Press Ltd. identified a persistent gap in the media landscape: German-speaking readers in Sweden and internationally lacked a source for Swedish news that was both thorough and accessible without noise or partisan framing. Existing outlets either catered exclusively to Swedish speakers or presented Swedish affairs through a narrow, often sensationalist lens. Hauptfokus was created to deliver context-rich, trustworthy journalism that helps readers understand complex Swedish political, economic and cultural issues on their own terms.

The founders observed that readers wanted more than headlines — they needed analysis and background that explained the „why“ behind Sweden’s policy decisions, market movements and societal shifts. Hauptfokus therefore commits to explanatory reporting that prioritises clarity over brevity and accuracy over speed.

Who is responsible for our editorial standards?

Our Chefredaktör (Editor-in-Chief), Michael Jung (anders.lindqvist@hauptfokus.de, +46 8 525 030 61), is ultimately responsible for all editorial standards, publication decisions and corrections at Hauptfokus. He leads a four-person editorial desk, each with clearly defined responsibilities, as detailed on our Our Team page.

The desk structure is designed to ensure every article passes through multiple layers of review. Jessica Schuster, Redaktionschef (karin.bergstrom@hauptfokus.de, +46 8 525 030 62), runs the daily newsroom, oversees headline review and commissions content. Tim Sommer, Politikredaktör (johan.eriksson@hauptfokus.de, +46 8 525 030 63), covers the Riksdag, the government and municipal politics. Sarah Engels, Wirtschaftreporter (sofia.nystrom@hauptfokus.de, +46 8 525 030 64), reports on the economy, markets and household finance. Sebastian Fischer, Kultur- och samhällsredaktör (erik.holmberg@hauptfokus.de, +46 8 525 030 65), handles culture, lifestyle and society. Melanie Hartmann, Ansvarig för faktagranskning (emma.sandberg@hauptfokus.de, +46 8 525 030 66), leads our fact-checking and source verification unit.

Every article published on Hauptfokus is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor and fact-checked before publication. This process is non-negotiable and applies to all content, including news, analysis and features.

How does our editorial philosophy guide our journalism?

Our editorial philosophy under Michael Jung is built on a single principle: Swedish journalism that helps readers understand complex issues without spin or oversimplification. This means we do not take ideological shortcuts, we do not inflate claims for engagement, and we do not publish speculation as fact.

We prioritise transparency in sourcing and methodology. Every claim of fact is traced back to a verifiable source — whether that is an official government report, a parliamentary record, a regulatory filing, or an interview with a named expert. Our Sources & Standards page outlines exactly how we evaluate and attribute information. If we cannot verify a claim, we do not publish it. If we make an error, we correct it promptly and visibly in accordance with our Corrections Policy.

AI-assisted tools may support research, drafting, editing, formatting, translation, metadata, headline options, summaries and transcription, but they never replace human editorial judgement. Every piece of published content is approved by a human editor. Our AI & Automation Policy makes clear that AI must never fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, author experience or expert profiles.

What can readers expect from our reporting?

Readers can expect every article to carry a clear byline, explicit sourcing for each significant claim, and a direct link to our Editorial Policy for full context on how we work. We maintain a structured Fact-Checking Policy that governs all verification work led by Melanie Hartmann’s team. Corrections are logged and accessible via our Corrections Policy page.

Our coverage spans Swedish news, politics, Wirtschaft (economy), culture, society and current affairs. We do not attempt to cover everything — we focus on stories that genuinely matter to our readership and that we can cover with the depth and accuracy our standards require. Each article is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor, and fact-checked before publication. This structure is the same whether we are reporting on a Riksdag budget debate or a cultural festival in Malmö.

Our desk structure means that each topic area has a dedicated editor who brings subject-matter expertise. Tim Sommer follows legislative developments in the Riksdag continuously. Sarah Engels tracks Swedish economic data releases and market movements. This specialisation allows us to provide context that generalist reporting often misses.

How is Hauptfokus funded and what does that mean for our independence?

Hauptfokus is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing. Our full funding model is transparently documented in our Ownership & Funding page, which includes details on Alpen Press Ltd.’s corporate structure and revenue streams.

Commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions. All sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled as such, and affiliate links are disclosed in accordance with our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure policy. Our Sponsored Content Policy further ensures that editorial independence is preserved in every piece of content we publish. Readers can verify our approach at any time.

We also accept tips and story ideas from readers, and we maintain a clear Complaints Procedure for anyone who believes our reporting has fallen short of our stated standards.

How can readers support or contribute to our work?

We invite readers to subscribe to our Newsletter for regular updates on Swedish news, analysis and background delivered directly to their inbox. Subscribers receive our reporting before general publication and gain access to exclusive editorial notes.

Readers with story tips, documents or information they believe should be investigated can contact us confidentially via our Tip Us page. We treat all submissions seriously and verify every lead before pursuing a story. General enquiries can be sent to info@hauptfokus.de.
